The inspiration for my work was the Venetian carnival.
The idea of the carnival was presented to the world by Italians and, first of all, by Venetians. Since ancient times, carnivals have been celebrated here noisily and merrily. Crowds of peasants from nearby villages flocked to the cities for grandiose theatrical performances. And the townspeople themselves did not sit at home.
Venice Carnival - Carnival of Carnivals It is the most famous and oldest, most original and unexpected: here the kingdom of masks and life itself resembles a stage.
According to the unwritten laws of the medieval carnival, all social conventions and everyday rules of life were canceled during its period: everyone could do whatever he wanted. In those days, under the masks of strict ladies and noble seniors, commoners often hid, and noble people walked around under the guise of simpletons, which gave the carnival a special intrigue. Since wealth and poverty were hidden under masks, any commoner could count on the attention of a princess, and a patrician could easily seduce a seamstress, which in ordinary life was not allowed by the standards of decency. A shoemaker could flirt with a noble lady and vice versa. The masks carefully kept the secrets of their masters ... Therefore, during the carnival, nothing seemed too shameful, too brave, too reckless, too dissolute.
Who knows who these two are? And what do their masks hide?
